Santosh Somnath Latnekar is the Director of the Soil Fertility Institute, Pune, with a strong foundation in engineering and over 15+ years of experience in the environmental sector.
Since 2007, his journey in environmental science began with a deep exploration of microbial ecosystems and their transformative impact. Over the years, he has developed innovative Indian cow-based biotechnologies that address critical environmental and agricultural challenges.
His work focuses in:
His work focuses in:
- Process stabilization, troubleshooting, and recommissioning of municipal sewage treatment plants
- Rapid improvement of soil organic carbon within 100 days
- Effective removal of offensive odour from solid waste and sanitation systems
Beyond implementation, Santosh has actively contributed at a policy level. He has presented recommendations to NITI Aayog for introducing a Microbial-based Soil Health Policy and to Maharashtra GoSeva Aayog for promoting Atmanirbhar Goshala initiatives.
Driven by a mission to restore soil health across India, he continues to research, educate, and spread awareness among farmers. Through his homemade technology “Bhu-Mangal”, he supports sustainable farming practices and soil regeneration.
In 2022, he undertook a Bharat Bhraman (India Tour), traveling 6,750 kilometers in 16 days to create nationwide awareness about the importance of soil health.
